generator testing

POWER LOSS SIMULATION

The best way to check all the systems of your home standby generator is to to shut-off the utility power and test the generator, otherwise known as a power loss simulation. This test verifies proper generator output and tests the automatic transfer switch (ATS) of your system. Utility power and generator power “switch tracks” inside the ATS. The proper operation of this part of your home generator is crucial for seamless transfer from utility power to the generator power and back again. This test monitors the system’s vitals and output for 10 to 30 minutes. We recommend this test be performed at least once a year and is included in our yearly service plans for that reason.

LOAD BANK TEST

Load Bank Testing is the only proper way to verify and calibrate output voltage. This test is essentially a stress test for your backup generator to ensure it is functioning properly by running the unit loaded. A generator only sees a load during a power loss, which is not the time to discover a problem. Load Bank Testing simulates the load of the house on the generator without disturbing power to the home. This test requires specialized equipment that is operated and monitored by certified technicians. Due to this fact, this test is normally reserved for commercial or industrial applications, but our expert certified techs are capable to administer this test in a residential setting.
